Veils for Every Gown Silhouette

jen-fuj-culver-hotel-2016-chloe-and-mint-bel-aire-bridal-3

You might be wondering how to choose a wedding veil, now that you’ve selected the perfect gown. We’re here to help! Check out our expert stylists’ advice about which veils best complement your dress!ba-veil-lengths-2017

SILHOUETTE: MERMAID

Love the hip-hugging, flared skirt of a mermaid or trumpet? A fingertip veil drifts to 38” and a waltz veil to 60”. These mid-length styles end right about where your skirt flares out, perfectly balancing your silhouette. Consider just one tier, so the back of your gown will remain visible through the tulle!

SILHOUETTE: BALL GOWN

Ever imagine yourself in a gorgeous ball gown? Bring your fairy tale to life! A short elbow veil hits around your waist and beautifully offsets the voluminous skirt. A formal cathedral veil provides a frame for your outfit and transforms your look with elaborate beading, lace, embroidery, or rhinestones.

SILHOUETTE: A-LINE

The A-line gown is on our A-list: it looks amazing on most body types! Veils may be paired with the length of your train: our floor length is 72”, chapel is 90”, and cathedral is 108” long. You can select lace to add romance, rhinestones for a splash of sparkle, or a plain trim for classic elegance.

SILHOUETTE: SHEATH

The cool, 90’s inspired sheath dresses are coming back. These slim-fitting gowns don’t need a lot of veil—try pairing a shoulder length veil or a French net to get that whimsical bridal look. Another great option is a plain cut edge cathedral veil that blows behind you like a wisp on the breeze.

SILHOUETTE: SHORT

Your short bridal dress will be a mini version of the ball gown, A-line, or sheath silhouette. Aside from choosing stunning shoes, you’ll want to select a veil that falls no lower than your waist line: elbow, shoulder, and French net veils are ideal.

5 Tips for Planning a Religious Wedding

bride-and-groom-in-doorway-000006807257_medium-1

Marriage is steeped with religious meaning. Though social views have changed over time, many people still view it as a sacred union.

Often, brides and grooms choose civil ceremonies for more flexibility; however, religious traditions may still be incorporated to honor one or both parties. In fact, this can be a helpful option if one partner is more spiritual than the other, or each person comes from a different faith.

If you prefer to get married in your place of worship, it’s a good idea to talk to your officiant, first. Most faiths have rules about what a marriage ceremony includes, how long it takes, and when it can be scheduled. Here are a few tips to get you started!

Get a Marriage License

Bottom line: if you’re getting married, you need a legal license. This is not provided by your church; you have to get one from your county or city office. You must verify your identity, eligibility to get married (age and single status), and pay the fees. There may be waiting period and/or window in which you may use the license, so schedule your visit accordingly.

Schedule Ahead of Time

If you’re Roman Catholic, for example, you may not be allowed to marry during Lent or Easter weekend. While some parishes may not prohibit marriages on Sundays, most churches will not cancel regular worship sessions to schedule a wedding. You’ll want to check with your church and find out what days are available ahead of time.

beautiful-newlywed-bride-groom-at-sunset-face-closeup-000090371465_medium

Consider Your Partner

Interfaith religions and same-sex marriages have been a point of contention over the years. Some religions frown upon marrying someone from another faith and/or require conversion; others are neutral and allow spouses to keep their religions. Some churches/temples only approve weddings after interviewing both people—even couples of the same faith. Some churches recognize civil unions and others do not; the spiritual aspect of marriage also varies between faiths. Be aware of the rules about marriage, children, and divorce before you walk down the aisle!

Include Ceremony Traditions

Religious traditions can add beauty and significance to your wedding. There’s usually a reading from scripture along with words about marriage and/or the couple from the officiant. A ring exchange is typical. Depending on your faith, your ceremony may include a mass, communion, and/or audience participation (sitting, standing, readings, or prayer). Folk traditions such as jumping the broom or handfasting may or may not be allowed, so ask your officiant. Some faiths encourage special practices before or after the ceremony, such as periods of seclusion or traditional dances.

Follow Venue Rules

If you’re getting married in a church, the reception will be in a separate space. There may also be rules about who is allowed to attend the ceremony (for example, if you’re Mormon getting married in a temple). Some venues allow lighting a unity candle and others do not. Jewish weddings are often held outside under a chuppah. Churches may limit your choice of music; a specific dress code may also be required. Don’t assume, however, that you must cover your shoulders or hair. Different parishes espouse different traditions, so check with your local house of worship for specifics.

***

Weddings comprise a meaningful part of our culture. Talk to your partner and discuss how your families feel about a wedding that does (or doesn’t) include traditions belonging to a specific faith.

Decide which practices are important to you, and which ones you’d rather leave out. Ask your religious officiant for more guidance, so you can plan a wedding that honors your beliefs and feels right for you. Happy planning!

The Pros and Cons of Elopement

bride-and-groom-000093088195_medium-1

Thinking about running away to get married?

Elopements are a growing trend in 2017, and it’s easy to see why—without all the hustle and bustle of planning a wedding, you can really focus on what you want. If you dream of getting married on a mountaintop, you can! Want to say I do in city hall? Go for it!

On the flip side, weddings evolved for good reason, and skipping the traditions can mean you miss out on some important rites of passage. Let’s dive in!

PRO: Focus on Your Love

When you elope, it’s just you and your partner. This moment is private, romantic, and memorable—without extra frills. You can truly let go of the superfluous details and focus on your love. You don’t have to spend a lot of time saying hello to friends and relatives in a whirlwind of a day.

CON: No Family Present

Back in the day, people would elope precisely to cut out disapproving parents and relatives. But if you’re on good terms with your family, you may want them present for this special moment. It’s possible to plan a small and/or casual wedding so your closest loved ones can bear witness.

Happy-wedding-couple-000065414581_Medium.jpg

PRO: Exotic Location, Small Budget

It’s cheaper to avoid renting a space and feeding guests—hence the attraction of elopements. You literally just have to show up and sign the papers, if that’s all you want. In the social media age, more couples are opting to hire a photographer and exchange vows in a beautiful location.

CON: Missing a Life Event

Your wedding is a rite of passage: it helps to prepare you, socially and emotionally, for marriage. We make a big deal of it because, like graduating school or having a child, it is supposed to stand out. You might later wish you’d worn a white dress, or gone ring shopping, or done ____ differently.

beautiful-caucasian-couple-just-married-000092731329_medium-1

PRO: Getting What You Want

Tired of your mother-in-law’s unwanted advice? Don’t care what the bridesmaids’ shoes look like? When you elope, you have control over what elements of style—if any—you care to incorporate. You can go to a chapel and have it over in an hour, or say your vows in a hot air balloon. It’s all up to you!

CON: Ignoring Stakeholders

Imagine you’re a parent. A significant moment in your life includes when your daughter or son gets married—you’re probably a wonderful mess of pride, sorrow, and joy. Siblings or close friends may also feel hurt if they’re left out. Bottom line: unless you live under a rock, people care about you and want to participate in your biggest life events.

wedding-couple-000064735901_medium

PRO: No Planning Needed

Don’t want to stress over planning a wedding? You don’t have to! Eloping means you can skip hiring a wedding planner, following a timeline, obsessing over a gown, picking florals, and choosing invitations. All you need is a license and someone legally certified to marry you (check your state’s requirements).

CON: No Social Skills Gained

Ever hear that communication is vital to a marriage? When you plan a wedding, you also gain skills such as: event planning, interpersonal relations, time management, negotiation, cooperation, compromise, emotional intelligence, budgeting, scheduling, organization, problem-solving, and multi-tasking.

happy-wedding-couple-000106586541_medium-1

PRO: Short Waiting Period

Does waiting for years to get married while you plan an extensive wedding sound exhausting? It’s common for couples to spend at least one year (sometimes two or three) saving and planning so they can throw the wedding of their dreams. Eloping can be done in a few days.

CON: Truncated Engagement

When you cut down your engagement time, you also miss getting to know your partner better. Even if you’re a thousand percent sure, an engagement period is like a test drive. It gives you both time to prepare for marriage—and see new/different aspects of each other in the process.

Why a Wedding Veil is a Bride’s Best Friend

2017-web-image-file_6702-4

They say dogs are man’s best friend (though some of us prefer cats). Other people firmly believe that diamonds are a girl’s best friend—or perhaps chocolate.

On your wedding day, however, your veil is your best friend! This time-honored accessory is always a good choice for your bridal outfit—and here’s why.

2015_08_06_belairebridal_0416

Figure-Flattering

The secret to choosing the perfect veil is in selecting one that complements your gown silhouette. Your veil has a figure-flattering effect that can lengthen your torso or balance the fullness of your dress.

2015_08_06_belairebridal_0197.jpg

Face-Flattering

The veil you choose can also frame your face. A narrow veil with lots of gathers will help elongate a short face, while a flat mantilla or wider veil with layers will shorten a long face.

2017-Web-Image-File_6727-2.jpg

Theme-Enriching

If you’re a princess bride, a cathedral veil completes your ensemble like nothing else. If you’re a romantic bride, lace is the way to go. If you’re a vintage-inspired bride, French net adds authentic style. Your veil is the ultimate accessory when it comes to creating a themed look!

Bel-Aire-Bridal-KT-Merry-6587-1.jpg

Photo-Enhancing

Go on Pinterest and you’ll see what we mean! Veils are a gorgeous addition to your wedding-day photos, whether they’re wrapped around you in a romantic cocoon, or blowing freely in the breeze.

2015_08_06_belairebridal_0849.JPG

Bridal

Ever see a woman wearing a veil on her birthday? Neither have we. Your wedding is the only time you’ll wear a stunning veil—so give it a go! Even strangers will know you’re a bride and shower you with love on your big day.

zkurt_boomer_photography_310.jpg

Personal

Modern veils are available in a variety of trims and lengths. You have the opportunity to personalize your ensemble by choosing one you love—whether it has scattered lace or shimmering rhinestones, four layers or just one.

2017-web-image-file_v7377c

Beautiful

That moment when a bride walks down the aisle in her wedding veil is irreplaceable. Everyone from your mother and father to your groom and best friend will get teary-eyed. A veil adds utterly magical bridal beauty.

Planning your wedding? The Spring 2017 wedding season is in full swing, and we’re so excited to see what this year will bring in bridal inspiration!

We were able to take a peek at the biggest trends at the bridal fashion weeks last fall, and our new collection offers a little bit of everything for this year’s modern, whimsical bride.

Here’s a breakdown of the big gown trends and which accessories you can wear to complete every look.

The Look: Enchanted Beauty

01032017

Source: http://www.brides.com/gallery/wedding-dress-trends-for-fall-2017

This look is created for the romantic yet outdoorsy bride with a passion for adventure. The rustic-chic-enchanted forest wedding features surprisingly organic, soft details. Gowns with 3D florals fall into this category, along with bridal capes, artistic sleeves, and ethereal layers.

Floral crowns are a good match for the enchanted bride, as are delicate flower combs and whimsical garlands. Lovely accessories such as a metallic leaf hair clip, sparkly earrings, or a floral belt will instantly elevate your ensemble with graceful elegance. Add an embroidered edge veil or an ethereal cut edge veil for a dreamy touch of romance. This look is straight from a fairy tale.

The Look: Princess Bride

Every designer offers gowns for the princess look, because every bride should look and feel gorgeous on her big day! This year’s ball gowns and romantic A-lines offer grandiose trains, lots of lace, long sleeves, and over-the-top sparkle that will make anyone feel like royalty.

How To Style Me

6583

The best match for this style is, pretty obviously, a sparkling tiara. Bridal crowns are looking big this year, adding creative dimension and volume to your style. Play up the bling with dramatic earrings or transform a strapless gown with shoulder jewelry. Shimmering headbands and rhinestone combs offer alternatives for bridesmaids or a reception change.

The Look: Boho Babe

010320172.JPG

Source: http://www.brides.com/gallery/wedding-dress-trends-for-fall-2017

This year’s bohemian bride is taking a more sophisticated spin. Last year’s casual dresses have evolved into delicate laces and retro silhouettes with big bell sleeves, see-through layers, and ready-to-wear fabrics that are super comfortable and yet so chic.

How To Style Me

Bel-Aire-Bridal-6647.jpg

6647

Boho-glam is in this year. Style this look with a sparkling bit of hair jewelry and big, bold statement pieces; personalize a simple gown by adding jewelry with meaning. For a more subtle, nature-inspired look, our goddess-worthy gold headbands are an easy-wear solution. Flexible hair vines offer a way to twist some bling into a braid or updo.

The Look: Retro

Gone is the Gatsby Era of the early teens; 2017 highlights a variety of retro styles. 90’s spaghetti straps and two-piece gowns are in for the dramatic, on-trend bride. Other big retro looks include dramatic bows, structured corset tops, peplums, and 70’s era jumpsuits/pants.

How To Style Me

bel-aire-bridal-klk-photography-6612-4

6612

For a sweet ‘90s look, a simple ribbon edge veil and small flower comb will do the trick. If you’re going more ‘60s-‘70s, a glittering bohemian headpiece is a game-changer. Our fascinators and vintage-inspired headbands mimic styles from the ‘20s and ‘50s. Delicate, French lace veils generally complement the retro lace gowns created by this year’s indie designers.

The Look: Fashionista

010320177

Source: http://www.brides.com/gallery/wedding-dress-trends-for-fall-2017

Dramatic trends are made for the bold bride who wants to look fresh and modern. See-through nude laces and plunging necklines, backless gowns and dramatic trains, and non-white colors are all the rage. Detachable skirts in place of separate reception dresses are still looking popular this year, though short bridal gowns are becoming readily more available.

Tulle overlays interspersed with lace create a gorgeous illusion of volume without bulk. This season’s heart-fluttering gowns come in soft hues of blush, gold, and champagne.

The countdown is on! As we head into the last weeks of this year, we’re taking a look of some of the most fabulous winter trends from 2016.

If you’re planning a winter wedding for next year, be sure to include some of these gorgeous ideas for an absolutely spectacular ensemble!

Sparkle Sparkle Sparkle

According to Brides, accessories are going to be big next year. Of course, we’ve always felt that accessories are the best way to customize your bridal ensemble and really make it yours. For winter weddings, play up the sparkle—glamorous earrings and glittering tiaras beautifully reflect the romantic lighting of winter wedding venues. Want to keep it rustic? A pretty floral crown with berries, branches, or cooler tones reflects the season’s natural beauty.

Long Sleeves

Gown designers of 2017 are wowing us with bishop sleeves, long lace sleeves, and flutter sleeves! Longer sleeves are perfect for a winter wedding and, apart from looking super stylish, help keep you warm. Adding a separate such as a shawl, cardigan, or sweater is another winter-friendly option that gives your photos personalized, home-spun charm.

Capes & Veils

The princess bride theme and fairy-tale weddings are popular every winter, as glamorous and sparkly accessories gracefully accent the icy beauty of this season. And what better way to keep warm than beneath a whimsical bridal cape? Many designers are adding dramatic capes to their 2017 gowns. You can also mirror this trend with a stunning cathedral veil. Whether you’re into lace trims or sparkling embroidery, the perfect design is waiting for you.

Bold Makeup

Neutral bridal makeup, messy updos, and heavy lashes were on trend this year. Fall and winter weddings have been the notable exception, showing off beautiful jewel tones! A bold lip or sparkly eyeshadow enhances a winter bridal look with flair. Metallics are still popular, so style your makeup to complement your sparkly accessories in silver, rose gold, or gold.
